Turkey Residence Permit (ikamet): How the e-ikamet Process Works
When you need an ikamet
A stay in Türkiye longer than 90 days (or beyond your visa) requires a residence permit (ikamet).
The real steps
- Arrange accommodation and gather documents: a passport valid at least 60 days beyond the permit, biometric photos, proof of address, health insurance, and proof of funds
- Apply online via the official e-ikamet system and upload your documents
- Book and attend an appointment at the Provincial Directorate of Migration Management — present originals, give biometrics, pay the fees
- The residence card is mailed to your address (usually 2–6 weeks)
- Renew before it expires; long-term residence and citizenship may follow
